FOOTBALL 2-WEEKS!!!! Time for kiddos to get in shape

    Hi Spartan Rookie Green:

We're now 2- weeks away from the start of football practice. I've been getting a few reports of kids putting on the pads/helmet and trying to run outside... only to last a few minutes before running out of juice. Please let the kids know they'll have much more success this season and fun if they come in with some stamina built up. If you missed the parent meeting the first week of practice is important... that's when we hold tryouts for specific positions.. They'll stay locked into those positions until the "2nd chance tryouts" after regular season game #2. Please have the kids get out with their pads on in the evening (same time we'd practice) and try to run for 10-15 straight minutes.. they can add a minute or two every time they go out. When practice begins.. we'll hit the ground running.. so I don't want them to be shocked when they run in pads for a 2- hour practice.

The coaches and I are excited to get started. Can't wait to see you and the kids at practice #1... coach Eric will send out more specifics soon. And remember.. when practices begin... we need the boys there atleast 15- minutes early so we can make sure their equipment is on the right way.. We don't want to eat into actual practice time with equipment issues. If we want our boys to be able to hang with Eastlake and Bellevue... it all starts with quality practices.

    Mike Dardis

PS: If you missed the parent meeting and have any questions.. drop me an e-mail with a "best time" to call and I'll do my best to give you the short version.

Parents To-Do's from the Parents Meeting

Please review the Parent Meeting Information that was discussed at our meeting on Monday. The coaching staff is going to count on you to help us out with a little homework before the 1st practice. As mentioned we have some "to-do's" to ask of you as well.
    • If you have received your equipment, please have your kids wear their helmets to get used to the feel of them. While watching TV, playing Video Games or hanging out. This will build up their neck muscles and get them conscious of the limited visibility. I would suggest 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night.

    • Have them practice putting on their equipment by themselves. We have asked that all kids show up to practice 15 minutes early so that they can get dressed in their equipment. Coaches will double check that everything is on and secure, but we do not want to be dressing the boys in their gear. Have them practice so that they can do it without any adult help.

    • We expect the kids to show up to "Boot Camp" on the 10th of August in shape. I would encourage you to have your kids attend the Chiles Agility Camp (there are four left and you can drop-in any Tues or Thurs from 9-11 at a cost of $15/drop-in - see our team calendar as well) AND while wearing his equipment go for a non-stop run. Start with 5 minutes per day and gradually get up to 15 minutes. In that 15 minute time period, they should be able to run a mile in their full gear.

    • Please cover our Base Offense and Defense with your boys. If your boys come to practice and understand our positions, what we call the positions and where the holes are, it will save the coaches a lot of time by not having to stop the entire team to explain and educate players.

We can't thank you enough for helping us out with these "to-do's". It will go a long way in giving your players the confidence they need when starting practice on the 10th of August.

Coaches Update / To-Do's from the Parents Meeting

It was great meeting most of you and your extended families on Monday evening. Coach Mike, Coach Rob and I were discussing how well the boys were interacting, playing and are already adopting the "football family" behavior. We got some great feedback from you all during the meeting and after when we were all socializing. We are really excited for the upcoming football season.

As coaches, we had a couple of "to-do's".

    • Chin Straps, they are coming and we will make sure to get those to you as soon as we get them.

    • Underarmour - In speaking with the SYFA, there is no standard, but they suggested that Black looks the cleanest. So in talking with Coach Mike, we are going to go with Longsleeve - Black Under Armour (similar to this link - it does not have to be Under Armour, just longsleeve black)

    • Equipment Pick-up - I have asked a personal favor of one of the SYFA board to see if we can get our players and Brandon Quinn's brother into the equipment storage facility before the 8th of August. It sounds positive, but if it happens, it will be a last minute thing and something that isn't calendar-able for planning. I will phone / email if we get the opportunity. Fingers are crossed.

If I forgot any of our to-do's, please shoot us a note and we will get right on them. We again are looking forward to an epic season !!!!!

    Chin Straps

I have heard that several players of the players on our team did not receive their helmet "CHIN STRAPS" during equipment pick-up last Sunday. What i have been told is that the chin straps are coming. They did not arrive as expected. There are several boys across several teams who do not receive them. Once they come in, SYFA will ask the coaches to query their teams and give them a 'number of chin straps needed'. Then SYFA will more than likely just throw them in our coaches bags for distribution to the boys.
