Desperate Need of Referees for GEJFA
Rookie Green Families, each year our system (SYFA) is asked to recruit at least 2 NEW Official candidates for the GEJFA (Greater Eastside Junior Football Association) program. This is a minimum requirement to build the program. The reality is that we should have at least 1 New Official for every three teams in your program. (SYFA has 14 teams - so we would need 4 "new" recruited referees). GEJFA has classes to help educate the new officials. They work with them at Jamborees to give them on the field training.
So here is our challenge with the incoming officials. In 2010 we will have less than 80 total Officials and that's if all the candidates become officials. This may mean that our Rookie program may have only 1 referee per game vs the normal 4. The Rookie Green team needs to step up and provide a candidate and the coaching staff is looking for your help. Review the Blog Post "SYFA - Referees Needed" for all of the information and details and let us know if you know of anyone that would be interested in this program.
Below is the list of "new" referees by program:
Bainbridge Island: 0
Bellevue Bears: 1
Bothell: 2
Cedarcrest: 0
Eastlake: 9
Five Star: 1
Inglemoor: 2

Team Building - Seahawks Game
As we are fast approaching our football season, the boys will be spending a lot of time together. Team building and allowing our players to develop new friendships will be important as we go through the season. With that said, a good friend of mine is the Director of Finance for the Seahawks. He was able to get our team 28 tickets (at no cost) to attend the Seahawks vs Titans opening preseason game on the 14th of August at 7:00 pm. This will be at the end of our first week of practice and I am sure the boys will be pumped to go see the professionals play. We currently have 21 players on our team and four coaches. I am wondering if there are any Dads or Moms out there that would join us in helping with transportation and chaperoning the boys that evening (the remaining 3 tickets - first come / first serve with a tie being who has the larger car for transportation). Please shoot me back a note and let me know a) if your son will attend b) if you would like to attend and help with logistics.

FOOTBALL 2-WEEKS!!!! Time for kiddos to get in shape
Hi Spartan Rookie Green:
We're now 2- weeks away from the start of football practice. I've been getting a few reports of kids putting on the pads/helmet and trying to run outside... only to last a few minutes before running out of juice. Please let the kids know they'll have much more success this season and fun if they come in with some stamina built up. If you missed the parent meeting the first week of practice is important... that's when we hold tryouts for specific positions.. They'll stay locked into those positions until the "2nd chance tryouts" after regular season game #2. Please have the kids get out with their pads on in the evening (same time we'd practice) and try to run for 10-15 straight minutes.. they can add a minute or two every time they go out. When practice begins.. we'll hit the ground running.. so I don't want them to be shocked when they run in pads for a 2- hour practice.
The coaches and I are excited to get started. Can't wait to see you and the kids at practice #1... coach Eric will send out more specifics soon. And remember.. when practices begin... we need the boys there atleast 15- minutes early so we can make sure their equipment is on the right way.. We don't want to eat into actual practice time with equipment issues. If we want our boys to be able to hang with Eastlake and Bellevue... it all starts with quality practices.
Mike Dardis
PS: If you missed the parent meeting and have any questions.. drop me an e-mail with a "best time" to call and I'll do my best to give you the short version.
